Help Installting FreePBX

@IanChong wrote:

I’m new to FreePBX. I was encouraged by an equipment supplier to try it out as it did not require significant hardware cost. So, I got an hp 255 G6 (AMD A6, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD) and tried installing the following starting with a, then b, then c at least 3 times each;

a. STABLE SNG7-PBX-64bit-2008-1

b. HISTORICAL SNG7-PBX-64bit-1904 Release Date: May 2019

c. HISTORICAL (End of Life 2016) 10.13.66-32bit Release Date: 2016

In each case the installation process started as described in the wiki, but then after about 10 minutes, got stuck around 80%. The installation hung at "Installing kmod -dahdi-linux (625/729) and then powered off the PC.

At first I thought there may be an incompatibility issue between my hardware and Linux so I installed Ubuntu 20.04.1 and it installed and ran fine.

So I went back to trying to install the above mentioned versions of FreePBX again, but had the same failures.

Please can someone tell me what I can do to get around this issue so I can start testing out FreePBX?

Thanks…

Hi,

I’m following the instruction at Applying+patches+to+Asterisk+in+distro+SNG7 (sorry cannot post links yet) which was working up to v16.9 or 16.10, but today traying to rebuild v16.13 it seems to not work anymore.

Any idea how solve it?

Hi,
I’m trying to load Distro STABLE SNG7-PBX-64bit-2008-1.
In the anaconda configuration screen I get the message “Cannot Save Storage Configuration” in the storage config section.
I get the same issue with SNG7-PBX-64bit-1904, however I CAN successfully install Centos 7 using the same anaconda installer just fine using the automatically selected settings, and it runs perfectly.

I’m trying to install on a INTEL Z83 mini SBC with 64GB of storage and 8GB ram.

Any help would be appreciated.

I already tried to restart the system, without success.

What can be done to get the updates working again?

Second one boots fine extension work, but no DAHDI trunks (1) or SIP trunks.

All seams to have happened after some modules where recently upgraded.

Anybody else come across this yet, before I flatten the system and start again?

FreePBX 14.0.13.40
PBX Distro: 12.7.6-2002-2.sng7
Asterisk Version: 13.32.0

It’s been a while since I’ve seen any system updates available in the GUI Dashboard. Recently I saw a bunch of updates show up, so this morning I decided to update them, and it seems to get stuck with the following output:

http://sng7.com/os/7.8/os/x86_64/Packages/device-mapper-persistent-data-0.8.5-2.el7.x86_64.rpm: [Errno 12] Timeout on http://sng7.com/os/7.8/os/x86_64/Packages/device-mapper-persistent-data-0.8.5-2.el7.x86_64.rpm: (28, 'Operation too slow. Less than 1000 bytes/sec transferred the last 30 seconds')
Trying other mirror.

Eventually (I guess after it tries all the mirrors it knows of) I start seeing this message repeating:

Another app is currently holding the yum lock; waiting for it to exit...
  The other application is: yum
    Memory : 152 M RSS (552 MB VSZ)
    Started: Fri Oct  9 07:48:54 2020 - 37:42 ago
    State  : Sleeping, pid: 12177

I found another post in these forums that seemed to be similar, and one of the recommendations was to reboot. I rebooted the server early this morning, and I ran yum update from the console, and still saw similar errors. At some point (I don’t remember the exact order of events…) I was unable to connect to the server over the network. I rebooted again, and I could access it again. After the 2nd reboot, I tried System updates from the GUI again, and I’m back in the same situation outlined above.

Everything seems to work (web interface, phone calls, etc…), but I’d like to keep our server updated.

I’m not a Linux pro, but I can manage files & run commands if instructed what to run. Any assistance is appreciated.

Petition to remove the check for updates on ssh login

@lgaetz wrote:

https://issues.freepbx.org/browse/FREEPBX-21947

On the Distro, when you login via ssh, you get an immediate status screen indicating if there are pending updates. There is also a check for updates that happens in the background which takes a while to complete. The displayed text is the result of the previous check, not the one that is happening currently on login, so the displayed info is often stale. It can also take a while for the background check to complete, during which time yum is locked.

It seems like a good idea, but the implementation causes more confusion than is solves. I think it should be removed, but wanted to solicit opinions (particularly opposing opinions) before doing so.

Thoughts from the community?

Swappiness on FreePBX Distro

@AdHominem wrote:

I run my FreePBX on a ESXi VM. For years, I’ve given it 2GB of RAM and it’s run just fine.

After a recent upgrade earlier this year, I noticed that my machine would have some sluggishness even when handling a single call. Often there would be a delay of several seconds after calls were answered and before audio was passed.

I examined the memory chart on the main FreePBX page and noticed that the memory was 52% used with 41% being cached. 3% was being used in swap file. I developed a theory that the swap file was slowing everything down.

I did some research and learned about how the cache and the swap file are used, and started to wonder why my system was using a swapfile at all. Cache is supposed to be freed up when memory is needed. In theory, swap shouldn’t be used at all unless there simply isn’t enough RAM to run the apps. At 52% usage, I was nowhere near there.

So, I learned a bit more about “Swappiness,” and I ran across this page:

https://linuxhint.com/understanding_vm_swappiness/

which indicates that Swappiness tells Linux when to start using swap files. The default is 60, which appears to mean that when free memory reaches 60% (or less), it should start using a swap file. The same page indicates that server systems should use a much lower setting. It also indicates that MariaDB based systems should set Swappiness to 1 (ONE).

The FreePBX distro has Swappiness set to 30. Given that FreePBX used MariaDB, and that swapping is undesirable, shouldn’t the FreePBX distro have swappiness set to 1???

In the meantime, I’ve increased by available RAM to 4GB, and the system seems to be working again. All the same, I thought that I’d consult the gurus and see what you think…

Should swappiness be set to 1?

Guys, I’ve tried installing the latest Distro downloaded from FreePBX onto a DigitalOcean Droplet, and while installing I was forced to add SSH Keys instead of a Password. My issue is that, now I can’t log in to the server with keys. It keeps saying Server Refused Our keys. I’ll need to access server in order to update it. Would I be able to update server using the GUI?.. Also, I tried getting in using the Access Console in the droplet, but I was met with Freepbx login: and Password… Would anyone know what info would work. Thanks in advance.
